Grammy Winner Esperanza Spalding To Play Union County Performing Arts Center
February 16th, 2011 3 Comments »
Fresh off her win for Best New Artist at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards (and all the Bieber controversy that surrounded it), Esperanza Spalding will be playing at the historic Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway on March 5th.
Though she’s been garnering attention in the jazz world these last few years, and racking up accomplishments for many before that, she remains a relative unknown to the mainstream. From her membership in The Chamber Music Society of Oregon at age five (as a violinist) where she stayed for 10 years, to attaining the position of concertmaster, to her best-selling 2008 CD, to her surprise Grammy win for Best New Artist earlier this week, achievement is nothing new to this young musical phenom.
By now you’re probably chomping at the bit to hear some of this talented lady’s work. You can listen to short sample clips while reading her biography on her website or you can check out the myriad YouTube videos of her. But first, you should head over to UCPAC’s website and order your tickets for her only area appearance before they sell out. With her newly-appointed Grammy winner status, tickets are sure to move fast.
The Jazzville, NJ crew will be in attendance, and it will surely be a night to remember. Let us know if you’re going!
Oh, and the controversy we mentioned earlier? Seems everyone is making a bigger deal of it than it is. Bieber and Spalding had nothing but kind words for each other after the awards ceremony.
