I’ve been a fan of local New Jersey wines for many years. For ages I wondered why wineries would close at 5pm on Friday nights. With beautiful grounds, fantastic wines and local jazz musicians itching to play a show, they have everything they need to attract a crowd seeking to unwind on a Friday night. I figured it was such a no-brainer that there must be some kind of law or local ordinance preventing them from staying open, serving wine and giving people a place to socialize, relax and listen to some jazz.

Well, it seems someone heard my prayers. While sniffing around the Internet for NJ Jazz news like a pig looking for truffles, I happened upon some tremendous news: Hopewell Valley Vineyards located in picturesque Pennington, NJ, is now open until 8pm on Friday nights and will feature a jazz band every other week (with classic rock filling the alternating weeks.)

This month, performers Ed Daab, Jersey Jazz and the Hopewell Valley Vineyards Jazz Ensemble will be featured on Oct 1, Oct 15 and Oct 29th, respectively. I’m going to try to hit one of these nights soon, as I’m sure with the rapidly approaching winter weather these events will probably taper off and start up again in the spring. (I hope I’m wrong though!)
