The Skippers stage was on fire last night! (And no, it wasn’t because of this oppressive heat we’ve been having lately.) I’m talking about the talented tap dancers, singers and musicians that took part in Thursday’s Tap Jam.

Honestly, if you’ve never been to a Tap Jam before, make sure to get yourself to the next one! Words cannot begin to describe just how amazing they can be. Yvette Glover, mother of famed tap dancer Savion Glover, hosts them every six to eight weeks to showcase both the rising stars and professionals of the tap world, all otherwise known as her “tap children.”

Last night saw some familiar faces, including Kyle Wilder and Hillary-Marie Michael. Wilder was as charismatic as ever, throwing down heart-pounding routines that brought the crowd to its feet.

Hillary-Marie tapped the night away, excited about next week’s Jersey Tap Fest, the 1st Annual NJ Tap Dance Festival. She has put her heart and soul into planning this, and Jazzville followers would do well to come out and support her! For more information, see here.

Newcomer Trevon Jackson, who recently moved to the area to pursue his dancing career, brought a whole lotta funk to the stage with his powerful steps and energy. There was also a surprise appearance by Parris Mann, who stomped out an impressive number in flip flops since he didn’t have his tap shoes handy.

And let’s not overlook the vocalists! Joy Foster took to the stage with a soulful rendition of the jazz standard, “My Romance.” Tracey Stewart and Clinteeyah Brooks followed later in the evening. Brooks delivered a rousing a capella performance of “And I Am Telling You” that left everyone with chills.

Do you need more convincing to attend the next one? Jazzville NJ will keep you posted!
