Tap dancers from far and wide will be converging at the South Orange Performing Arts Center in just over a week to participate in the 1st Annual Jersey Tap Fest.
An educational experience that includes 40+ classes taught by major stars from the world of tap, the event will culminate in a main stage show where both students and teachers will perform for an audience.
With 40+ classes, the subject matter and skill levels are many and varied. There will be classes for Adult Beginners, Music Theory for Tap Dancers and Hip-Hop, in addition to others. There will even be a free “Shim-Sham Shimmy” class open to the public!
Each day will end with a special event at 7:30pm:
Wednesday – Jam Session: Dancers showcase their hoofing skills, backed by a live band.
Thursday – Panel Discussion: Teachers/faculty share their stories and answer questions.
Friday – Student Showcase: A talent show of sorts providing participants the opportunity to share their skills.
Saturday– Main Stage Show: A two-act program featuring student and faculty performances.
The festival will end on Saturday with a two-act event. The first act will feature students who took part in repertoire classes as they perform the pieces they learned. Jersey Tap Fest faculty and other special performers will be showcased in the second act.
Special guests include two giants in the tap world: jazz vocalist Yvette Glover, mother of famed tapper Savion Glover, and Dr. Harold “Stumpy” Cromer, half of the legendary duo “Stump and Stumpy.”
With a lineup like that, Jersey Tap Fest is sure to be an historic event. See you at the main stage show!
UPDATE: Baristanet is offering 4 free tickets to the main stage show to one lucky reader.
