As August quickly comes to an end, the Jazzville, NJ crew is looking back on all the terrific performances we’ve attended this summer. And despite the fact that we’d love for summer to continue for another three months, the end of the season does bring one piece of good news: the arrival of Labor Day weekend, which for avid jazz fans translates into the annual Chicago Jazz Festival.
This year’s festival is sponsored by CareFusion (the same company that’s put on the New York and Newport Jazz Festivals for the last few years) and promises a slew of performers as varied as the city’s own fabric.
So why am I reporting on an event that’s almost 800 miles away from NJ? Well, earlier this year a good friend of mine finished his medical residency and took a position in Chicago. And since I’m all about efficiency, I’ve decided to kill two birds with one stone and attend the jazz festival while I visit my buddy and his wife.
I can’t believe it’s already Sunday night, and I haven’t even started packing! It’s time for me to get cracking. For full details and an official schedule of events, take a look at the City of Chicago’s page for the jazz festival. I’ll be reporting back with photos, audio and anything else I can get to give you a taste of the Windy City.
