I was browsing through tap dance videos on YouTube recently, when I found one featuring Savion Glover with his troupe, Bare Soundz.

Almost immediately, I recognized the two male dancers in his group as Marshall Davis Jr and Maurice Chestnut. Both of these tremendous talents have performed at previous Tap Jams!

What is a Tap Jam you’re asking?

Well, it’s an event held every 6-8 weeks that allows tap dancers to showcase their skills in front of a live audience.

These Jams are hosted by Yvette Glover (Savion’s mother, yes really!) and feature a talented and growing group of dancers in what she calls her “tap family” – tap dancers from all over the tri-state area ranging from those that have just started tapping to established professionals on the world stage (as you can see from the video mentioned above.)

If you haven’t yet figured out how you’re celebrating National Tap Dance Day, I invite you to come join us on Tuesday May 25th @ 8pm at Skippers for what is sure to be an exciting night!

Skipper’s is located at:

304 University Avenue
Newark, NJ
